Chemistry

Chemistry is a regular poetry event held at the Chemic Tavern in Leeds, founded and hosted by Joe. A successor to the long-running Word Club (where Joe began his poetry career and was an almost ever-present regular) and Words on Tap, Chemistry was launched in July 2022, when a full house audience were treated to sets from headliners Clare Shaw and Rachel Bower, and an incredible 26 open mic poets.

“The best regular poetry event in Leeds. Last night was brilliant, some excellent poets, a lovely atmosphere and a great compère.”

Tonnie Richmond, audience member and open mic participant

“Thank you for a great evening, even though being number 21 open micer was nerve wracking! Lovely venue, amazing poets and friendly atmosphere.”

Chemistry is a pay-as-you-feel event (and paying nothing is fine) usually held on the last Friday of the odd months (i.e. January, March, May, July, September and November), starting at 7.15pm, with two guest poets plus an open mic. Each event has an entirely optional (and mostly ignored) theme based on elements of the periodic table.

For details of forthcoming events, please see the Gigs page or find Chemistry on Facebook and Twitter.
